Newport Beach Roof Deck Coating

Prestige Deck Coating recently traveled to Newport Beach for just such a project. The flashing and wood were in sorry shape, so we had to perform some serious deck repair.

Removal Repair. The bottom 8 inches of the stucco had to be removed and replaced for installation of the Diato ‘Combo’ metal. The whole plywood sub-floor had dry rot issues. We removed the existing deteriorating plywood and re-installed 3/4 inch plywood sheeting across 177 sq ft of sub-floor. This prepared us to attack the metal flashing installation.

Flashing Installation. First, 53 linear ft of Diato ‘Combo’  was installed along the deck to wall transition and incorporating the stucco screed. This was to make sure the wall would be prepared for stucco when we completed the flashing installation. Next, we installed the two 2 piece metal flashing door pans, in order to insure a waterproof seal underneath the doors. This Newport Beach roof deck coating also required two new scupper wall drains.

This Newport Beach roof deck coating project also had a specialty flashing installation.

We installed Masonry/Chimney Flashing:

This is L metal flashing with a 3/8 inch sawcut in masonry, combined with 1 inch counter flashing. This allowed us to waterproof the joint from chimney to roof deck. We also caulked the joint between brick and stucco wall to insure a tight seal.

The Crete Waterproofing System. We were then ready to install our 5 layer deck waterproofing membrane. The Crete System includes the following layers:

-2.5 galvanized metal diamond lathe stapled on sub-floor
-cementitious base coat with a Desert Brand polymer additive
-fiberglass matting & acrylic resin (Bonder 480)
-skim cementitious base coat
-spray texture (Smooth/Knockdown/Orangepeel)
-fortified concrete paint
